Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Addresses and affiliations should contain the department, name of the institution, full postal address of the institution and e-mail address for each author and their ORCID IDs (ORCID Id is obligatory!).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is one and half spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The author should include two versions of the article- one anonymized and the other with full affiliation.

Author Guidelines

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission from the copyright holder to reproduce any data, tables, schemes and figures for which copyright exists.
 
Submission of the paper to the EBR implies that:
• it has not been published previously;
• it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere;
• if accepted the paper will not be published elsewhere in the same form without the written permission of the EBR editor.

All submitted articles are subject to anti-plagiarism control in the iThenticate system.
 
The EBR also considers articles based on studies published in conference proceedings or as working papers provided they have been substantially revised, expanded and rewritten. Such an article must be substantially different to make it a new, original work. The EBR requires the original paper to be supplied by the author along with the expanded article for the purpose of comparison. Moreover, the article submitted for publication in the EBR should have the following statement in a footnote: 'This article is a revised and expanded version of the paper entitled [title] accessible at [link or some other reference to the paper]' made in the online system when the manuscript is submitted, using the "Notes for the Editor" field. If applicable authors should provide standard written copyright permissions.

The manuscript – technical guidelines

1. All articles (except those from Canada and the USA) must be written in British English.

2. In the EBR the standard academic de-personalised style of writing is used, i.e. without the use of "I" or "we”.

3. Manuscripts are to be edited in Word using the Calibri 12-point font in A4 paper format, one and half spaced and be aligned. Pages should be numbered. Maximum size of the paper should be up to 8,000 words (including figures andt ables, references, footnotes). It could be possible to exceed this limit in very special cases. At the same time brief articles (around 3,000 words) presenting insightful studies in a compact way are also welcomed.

4. The title should be as short as possible. Abbreviations should not be used in the title. It is important that the topic mentioned in the title is adequately covered in the paper itself.

5. Addresses and affiliations should contain the department, name of the institution, full postal address of the institution and e-mail address for each author and their ORCID iDs.

6. An abstract should have no less than 100 words and no more than 150. It should summarize the contents of the paper (aims, methods, results, and conclusions).

7. Papers should have keywords and the Journal of Economic Literature classification codes (JEL Codes). Keywords should consist of no more than ten words or short phrases. They need to correspond to the JEL codes areas.

8. Acknowledgements and references to grants, affiliations, postal and e-mail addresses, etc. should appear as a separate footnote to the author’s name a, b, etc. and should not be included in the main list of footnotes. It should be also specified who is the contact author by adding the statement “Contact author.” at the end of that person’s footnote.

9. The article should be divided into sections and also into subsections, if necessary. Sections, except for Introduction and Conclusions, are numbered. Sections are divided into paragraphs. Each paragraph should have at least three complete sentences.

10. The Introduction should state the aim of the article, its literature background, research methods and also the contribution of the study to international literature. Its final paragraph should present the contents of the article.

11. The aims declared and presented in the Introduction and developed in the sections of the article should be reflected and addressed in Conclusions.

12. All Tables and Figures should be numbered and shown consecutively in the paper according to their numeration. They should be referred to before they appear in the manuscript. Data in Tables and Figures should be interpreted in the main text with reference to the numbers of the Tables and Figures. All Tables and Figures should be understandable on their own as much as it is possible – the readers should not have to check the main text to comprehend information presented in Tables and Figures. The sources of all data used in Tables and Figures must always be written. All diagrams including schemes and maps should be referred to as Figures.

13. If any Tables or Figures are in colour they will only appear in colour in the online version of the journal. In the printed version they will be in black and white. However if colour is essential to the figure a good quality colour image should be submitted. Tables and Figures should be free of any unnecessary decorative elements.

14. Equations should be numbered consecutively throughout the text using the Arabic numbers written in parentheses, e.g.: (1), (2), (3) …

15. Footnotes should be avoided. However if used they need to be short and numbered consecutively throughout the text in Arabic numerals. Footnotes should be set in Times New Roman 10-point font.

16. Cross-references should refer to particular section numbers: e.g.: see Section 1.4.

17. Quoted texts of more than 40 words should be separated from the main body by a four-spaced indentation of the margin as a block.

18. The Economics and Business Review uses the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition reference system for citations in the text with a detailed alphabetical list at the end of the article. Full references should include all authors’ names and initials, date of publication, title of article, title of publication (in italics), volume and issue number (of a journal), publisher and form (books, conference proceedings) and page numbers. All works cited in the text and only those must be included in the References section at the end of the article.

All accepted articles will be finally formatted for publication by the EBR publisher.

Conflict of interests

We hereby declare that we are not financially bound to or dependent on, any organisation or any party having a direct financial contribution to the object of the study or materials tested in a given study (e.g. by employment, consultancy, holding of shares, fees), except for those mentioned in the attachment. We understand that every subsidy for studies or the project has to be listed in a footnote of the first page of the paper.

Transfer of copyrights

We hereby declare that we transfer onto the Publisher, automatically and free of charge, the entire copyright and related rights to publish and distribute the sent materials – in all publishing forms, both those currently known and those that might be potentially developed in the future. We hereby declare that we transfer onto the Publisher, automatically and free of charge, any other manner of dissemination of this paper, through all fields of exploitation, both those currently known and those that might be potentially developed in the future. We transfer these rights on condition that this manuscript has been accepted for publication and subsequently published. As the same time, we hereby declare that we will not present this manuscript for publication anywhere or in any language without previous written consent by the acquirer of the copyright, i.e. the Publisher.
